School Management

B.O.M
Ndagene Boys B.O.M
The major role of the BOM at Ndagene Boys is to promote quality education, develop institutional policies, provide adequate infrastructure and monitor curriculum development. The BOM is also involved in decision making, financial matters, monitoring education standards and recruitment of teaching and non-teaching staff (MOEST, 2005). According to the Taskforce on student indiscipline and unrest (ROK, 2001), the appointment of BOM members who were unqualified and incompetent impacted negatively on the quality of management of schools. Boards assisted schools with the acquisition of physical resources and promoted discipline; all these led to the achievement of quality education (Kindiki, 2009). In general, the BOM should contribute to educational development in schools. Despite the expectations on the BOM regarding their effectiveness, their performance has been greatly criticized especially in Sub-County day secondary schools where their performance is seen to be below par. The Commission of inquiry into the education system of Kenya (ROK, 1999) found out that the management of educational institutions was ineffective because most BOM members lacked quality management skills.

P.T.A
Ndagene Boys boasts of a functional P.T.A for the following reasons:
When parents are fully involved in their children’s education, the children earn higher grades, they are well behaved and stay in school till they finish form four. When both parents and teachers (PTA) work together, communicate and build a family and school partnership, everyone reaps the benefits. According to Fan and Williams (2010) allowing the participation of parents in school activities through PTA is one way of revealing the parents’ educational aspirations for their children. It gives the children an opportunity to understand what their parents would want them to achieve. PTA has also been found to assist in the improvement of the performance of adolescents in subjects such as Mathematics and English which are compulsory in schools.PTA, through parental involvement has the potential of improving the academic self-efficacy of students since it plays a significant role in ensuring that there is appropriate motivation among the students.

Student Council
Reasons we have a vibrant Student Council at Ndagene:
Student councils are a great way for students to take on leadership roles, promote the voice of the student body, solve problems and impact his or her community. A council serves as the voice for an entire student body and actively works with teachers and advisors to promote a better learning environment. Once an election is announced, students perform a critical assessment about his or her own abilities and skills and decide whether he or she would like to serve on the student council. This is an excellent critical self-reflection that can really help students measure the roles that best fit them or even identify personal weaknesses they would like to shore up. In addition to boosting confidence, student councils improve communication skills. When a student chooses to run for student council, he or she must be able to speak publicly. Once elected, these individuals must also be comfortable speaking openly with other student officers — including problem solving and accepting feedback.

Security
At Ndagene Boys, security is one thing that has never been compromised:
Keeping schools safe allows children to look forward to being in an encouraging environment that promotes social and creative learning. When their basic safety needs aren't met, children are at risk for not feeling comfortable at school and may stop showing up, or they may remain on edge throughout the day. Promoting school safety creates an open space for kids to explore, learn and grow. A safe learning environment is essential for students of all ages. Without it they are unable to focus on learning the skills needed for a successful education and future. When violence is part of the educational setting, all students are affected in some way. Even though your child may not be the actual victim of violence in school, there is a very good chance that he or she will witness violent acts throughout the educational years. Research continues to illustrate children who feel unsafe at school perform worse academically and are more at risk for getting involved in drugs and delinquency.
